Willow Mill Veterinary Hospital has established the Daisy Flowers Fund to help pets that are suffering from illness or injury and have no owners, or when treatment cannot be financially supported by their families. The fund was inspired by the founder of Willow Mill Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Flowers and the family's Shetland Sheepdog, Daisy. Two of the pets that have benefitted from this fund are Golden Graham and Lucas, and although their backgrounds vary, the common thread is the loving families they are now lucky enough to have!
Golden Graham was admitted to our hospital by a good samaritan who found him in the road but couldn't afford his treatment costs. He was very young, in poor health, had many parasites, including an uncommon parasite called the lungworm, and required hospitalization until he regained his strength. While in the care of our veterinary team, our assistant, Ali, decided to adopt him. Once recovered, Golden Graham became a comical addition to the already busy family of two young boys, two dogs, and two cats! He is now five months old, and turning into a very handsome and photogenic cat!
While Golden Graham came to us as a stray, Lucas was part of a family who adored him, but ultimately couldn't continue the care that he required. When Lucas's original family shared their struggle, Dr. Richards discussed surrendering his care to the Willow Mill Veterinary Hospital until a new family could be found. While the decision was obviously difficult, they realized it was the best decision that they could make for Lucas. At that point, the Willow Mill veterinary team ensured Lucas a healthy start to his new life with a dental cleaning, extraction of a diseased tooth, and updated his vaccinations. A new family was found quickly and Lucas was able to join the family after just a few days! Lucas is now loved by his pet parents and two young human brothers.
Caring for a pet can be a financial commitment that isn't always practical, or sometimes it isn't fully realized at the onset of pet ownership. The Daisy Flowers Fund, generously supported by donations from our clients, has helped provide necessary medical treatment and ultimately helped place Golden Graham and Lucas in long-lasting, loving homes.
